Just A Brief Post on EVEMon
When I am planning out skills to train I have never found a better tool than EVEMon.
You will not require much in the way of computer requirements to run the software, in fact the latest version can be run from a USB stick, its that small. The only thing is the computer running it mus have Microsoft’s .net framework 2.0 installed.
I should emphasise that I am not getting anything from pushing this freeware to you but I merely wanted to highlight a tool that I use for plotting out my character’s development.
The software will log your characters details from EVE Online and then you can start messing around by adding skills to a skills list so you can see how long it will take you to adding skills to your list by selecting the ship or item you want to train for and telling the software to add the relevant skills (including pre-requisites that you don’t already have) to your list.
You can also change your stats based on seeing what adding cybernetic implants to your head will do. The software even has a mineral calculator imbedded into it which can pull information from certain websites to give you a basic idea of how much you will get from a certain amount of ore that you get to enter.
Anyway, enough about this, my advice is, as its free give it a shot. If you like it use it, if not remove it.

I can also vouch for this handy app.
Its not only a handy skill planner and monitor, but it also has a full ship and item database which is very handy. For example, lets say you wanted to fly a Amarr Dread. it will find all the skills you need to train to be able to fly it and bung them all in a skill plan for you.
If you dont like the idea of giving a 3rd party application you eve login details it will also run from saved character xml data fromt he eve-online site

[…] Learning doesn’t just decrease your training time - it also adds an attribute to your base bonus - of 2%. It’ll round down, of course, but it does mean that your attributes will go up. Software like Evemon and other external API’s lets you keep track and in the case of at least Evemon, calculate it. Learning on the Eve Database […]

I’ve used EveMon for a while now and have found it very useful when deciding what skills to train next, and how long it will take me to achieve them.
You are able to find the ship or item of your choice and add the skills that are required by one simple click.
Very useful
