Earn ISK - you too can pilot a money-maker
If you’re new to Eve, the single best way to earn ISK is to complete missions.
Yes, I know the temptation to go hunt down NPC pirates is great or the desire to become a one man mining and production corporation is overwhelming; but seriously, sit back and let me explain why you should try doing some missions first then if you disagree go mine a roid or two.
Firstly when you begin the game you will have 1,000 isk and a starting frigate to your name. Its not a lot, but through the use of missions not only will you earn ISK, but your skills and ability to handle larger ships will too grow too. The missions you can take are extremely varied, you just have to go look for them and how to find them is discussed on another post on this site. You may hear about people who are making their fortunes in mining but as a starting character you won’t. Its plain and simple really, what you can mine and refine in an hour in a high secruity system (new players start in a 1.0 system) in value is almost 10 times less than what you, as a starting player will earn by runing missions in the same amount of time. On top of that you can get missions involving mining, or missions involving trade, combat even research and manufacturing. So as a starting point missions will not only give you valuable experience they will give you the cash to get a better ship/blueprints/materials to enable you to do what you want better.
I will point out that yes you can make a hell of a lot of money traidng, EVE is after all pretty much unique in that you, the players control the economy and if you have a good eye for spotting a bargain and a mind for reasonable mark up then yes you will make money quicker, however it should also be noted that the frigate you start with will hold next to nothing, so again running some missions until you can afford a hauler is always a better plan.
